Once you have prepared a corpus, you can extract terms from the corpus by using a term extraction tool. Note that not all term extraction tools perform well. In fact, some produce so much noise and silence that they are not worth using at all. The best term extraction tools compare your corpus to a reference corpus as a means of identifying term candidates that are likely to be domain-specific. For more information about term extraction tools, including the key problems of noise and silence, review the topic Term Extraction Tools in Getting Started as a Terminologist. Course 1 – Foundations.
In this course, we’ll show you how to run two term extraction tools which we think are very good: TermoStat and the one offered in Sketch Engine. The basic principles apply to other term extraction tools.
