In course series 2, we learned how to work with termbases. People often think that a terminologist works in a termbase all the time and nowhere else. That is not true. Probably the most important part of a terminologist’s job is identifying terms that need to be “managed” in a termbase, and preparing them for addition to the termbase. Indeed, identifying and pre-translating terms early-on in a translation process has long been identified as a best practice in the translation industry. These tasks take place entirely outside of the termbase itself. They can even be done without having a termbase at all.

For this reason, we dedicate this third series of courses to work that needs to be done with terms prior to their inclusion in a termbase.
